Project No Cap is on Discord for team communication, volunteer coordination, and community engagement. Follow the instructions below to create your account, join the correct team, and introduce yourself.
Why are we using Discord?
Discord offers many of the same communication features as Slack without limiting our message history, meeting attendance, or meeting length. Its role-based access system also allows us to organize members by team, volunteer role, and location. Discord will serve both active volunteers and members of the broader community who want to learn more about uncapping the House.

Create a free Discord account using the link below. You can use Discord through a web browser or download the application.

Join the Discord ServerComplete the Welcome Steps
- Follow the required prompts that appear after joining the server.
- Open the Start-Here channel and review the server information.
- Open Channels & Roles.
- Select the state where you currently live.
- Review the available channels and select any additional interests that apply to you.
Set Your Server Nickname
Using a consistent nickname format makes it easier for volunteers and team leaders to identify one another.
- Click your name or profile image.
- Select Edit Profile.
- Select Edit Per-Server Profile.
- Set your server nickname to: First Name | Your Role
Introduce Yourself
- Send a message in the general channel.
- Briefly introduce yourself, your location, and your role or interest in Project No Cap.
- Post team-related updates in the private channel assigned to your team.
- Post projects or requests requiring assistance in #Projects.
Understand the Channels
Discord includes several channel types. Some channels are available to everyone, while others may be limited to certain teams or roles.
Text Channels
Use text channels for announcements, conversations, updates, links, files, and ongoing team communication.
Forum Channels
Forum channels organize separate posts by topic, making projects and longer conversations easier to find.
Voice Channels
Voice channels can be used for meetings, conversations, presentations, and collaborative work sessions.
Private Channels
Private channels are only visible to members who have the appropriate team or leadership role.
Threads
Threads are smaller conversations inside a text channel. They help keep detailed discussions from crowding the main channel.
